Chief Engineer




About the Role

GALT Aerospace is seeking a talented Chief Engineer to manage and improve GALT’s technical approaches related to Communication Mission Payload System Development, System I&T, Platform Installation, final Weapon System Ground and Flight Tests, and Air-Worthiness Certifications. At GALT Aerospace, a Chief Engineer is responsible for leading collaborative rapid development of complex SWAP-constrained systems for military airborne and ground integrated communication systems for Command and Control applications.

The candidate will work closely with other engineering functions in a team environment, including: Flight Engineering, Systems Engineering, Product Engineering, Software Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Program Management to meet schedule and technical performance requirements.

The candidate will focus on command and control and Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems. The qualified candidate will work in a rapid integration and testing environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The selected candidate will perform a wide variety of tasks ranging from System and Software requirements assessment, System and Software Integration and Test, Concept/Prototype Development, to include customer site support activities, and demonstration test and evaluation activities. The integration and test tasks involve all aspects of hardware and software integration including the planning and conduct of formal systems test activities at contractor, or customer sites.

Specific tasking include:
o Systems Architect – Customer Focused Innovation
- Driving Solutions to meet Customer Gaps
- Flowing down each function of the architecture to each Engineering group
o Support “Programs” as part of a Weak-Matrix Organization
o Support “BD & Growth” as the Tech Solutions Architect and be the “Technologist” in BD Customer Meetings
o Tech Leadership at Chief Engineer Level
o Work with BD to develop IRAD Roadmaps
o Oversee and manage all IRAD Programs
o Oversee CCBs and Engineering Data Management
o Support MRP Systems … Design outputs all the way through I&T

Job location is work onsite with possible occasional/part-time telecommuting.
Minimal domestic travel required, possibly 10% of time.


Required Skills, Experience, and Education

o Bachelor’s Degree (BS, E.E/B.S) in Electrical Engineering or related STEM degree from an accredited institution

o 10+ years’ experience with in a related Engineering Environment

o U.S. Citizenship required

o Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) personnel security clearance required

o CONOPS related to Military Airborne Communications

o Aircraft Integration, ideally in SWaP Confined platforms

o Military Airborne Environments, Avionics, Communications, Navigation

o Military Comm Systems / Networks

o Military Comm Waveforms and Radios

o LOS - Link-16, TTNT, BE-CDL, Ku-CDL, ANW2, TSMx, MIMO/MANET Networks, LPI-LPD Chaotic, etc

o BLOS – MUOS, DAMA, Starlink, Commercial Ka, WGS, AEHF, IBS

o Basics of RF Systems, Analysis, & Design of Airborne Systems

o SEIT … Systems Engineering I&T … All aspects of the System Engineering Process / Tools

o Leading multi-Discipline Engineering Teams

o Understanding broad Engineering Disciplines

o Electrical,

o Power,

o Mechanical,

o RF Systems – RFE, Antennas, Modeling, & Analysis

o Flight Sciences,

o Software,

o Sim/Stim,

o SIL,

o AC GND & Flt Test, and

o Airworthiness Certifications

o Agile Systems & SW Development

o Understanding all phases of SW Development, Process, Config-Control, tools, etc

o Understand Algorithms and MATLAB / SimuLink modeling, and auto code generation capabilities

o Familiar with MBSE, Behavioral Models, and Digital Engineering concepts, tools, etc

o Understanding of Military Electronics Standards

o Relationship based Team Player (win-win) with all GALT Employees, Customers, and Suppliers

o Relationship based Customer Development and Retainment Model

o Extensive Experience with Government Contracts and Managing Subcontracts

o Large Network (Contact List) of key folks in the industry

o Reputation and Ability to attract talented engineers into GALT

Preferred Skills, Experience and Education

o Secret Clearance preferred

o Experience in networks, CDL, Link 16, etc.

o Program management experience

o Familiar with Military Communications LOS Waveforms, including: Link-16, TTNT, CDL, BE-CDL, Chaotic waveforms, ANW-2, TSM-X, MADL, IFDL, etc.

o Familiar with SATCOM BLOS Waveforms, including: WGS, DVB-S2, PTW, Iridium, Inmarsat, Starlink, etc.

o Design and I&T experience in Military comm systems / RF technology

o Integration of various Military radios on an airborne platform

o Familiar with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, DO-160, MIL-HDBK-516

o Team player with a proactive attitude and the ability to be productive in a dynamic environment

o Ability to work in a collaborative environment

o Strong oral and written communications skills

o Strong critical and analytical thinking

o Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure

Physical Requirements

o Must be able to sit or stand for 1 hour at a time

o Must be able to operate a computer
