Marv Langston

Marv joined the GALT Aerospace Board of Directors in November of 2022. Marv is an independent consultant and Principal of Langston Associates LLC providing consulting services on technology adoption, enterprise architecture & engineering, organizational strategy, and leadership. Combining over thirty-four years of public service and fifteen years of private sector experience, Marv brings a broad spectrum of expertise to the GALT Board of Directors.

During Marv’s distinguished public service career as a Senior Executive Service (SES), Marv served as Department of Defense’s (DoD) Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO), where he helped initiate the Global Information Grid, Public Key Infrastructure – Common Access Cards, established DoD CIO Policy / Governance, led the DoD Y2K response, and initiated the DoD Year 2000 transformation. Prior, he served as the DARPA ISO Director, managing the work of 30 Program Managers working on all aspects of information systems to include: auto target recognition, distributed services-based architectures, command & control, agent-based logistics, and early cyber security. Adding to his impressive public service resume, Marv also served as the USN’s first Chief Information Officer (CIO). This unique position was the first of its kind for the USN, establishing initial cross Navy and DoD relationships and governance processes for all information transmission.  

Earlier in his career, Marv served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Acquisition for the U.S. Navy’s C4I & Space commands, supported John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL) as a Systems Analyst in their Warfare Analysis Department, served 15 years as an Engineering Duty Officer in the USN with various USN ships and systems commands, and was an enlisted nuclear power electronics technician.   

Following his public service career, Marv was the Chief Operating Officer of a small high-tech start-up company, Chief Technology Officer of a large business practice, and was a Senior Staff Engineer at the Johns Hopkins University, Applied Physics Laboratory, where he helped establish today’s AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense capability.

During his career Marv. earned a Masters and Doctorate of Public Administration (DPA) from the University of Southern California (USC), a Master of Science in Electronic Engineering (MSEE) from the Naval Post Graduate School, and under Naval Enlisted Science & Engineering Program, and a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering (BSEE) from Purdue University.
